I headed from Nelson to Takaka and got picked up by someone going to Collingwood, a town much closer to the trail head in the Golden Bay region. I ended up in this little panisula camp ground and went out with my driver Jen and her friend collecting scallops for an afternoon. We dredged the bottom twice and came up with our limit of 50 each and headed back to shore. There we shelled them and cooked up a feast of pan fried and beer battered scallops, salad, and potatoe wedges. So not only did I manage to get a ride near the trail head, I met a chef (Jen) who made this fantastic meal, and had an awesome afternoon fishing on the ocean. Sure beats driving!
